Recently Makeup Revolution brought out a makeup setting spray designed for people with oily skin. So is this the answer to all our problems?
First off, I would say my skin is extremely oily, not just in the T-zone but everywhere. After apply makeup I’m left shine free for around three hours maximum, depending on what products I use.
The Makeup Revolution Oil Control Fixing Spray* is said to ‘deflect surface shine for a natural matte finish’ and lasts ‘up to 12 hours’. When applying the spray (8-10 inches from face) I found it to be a fine mist, not as fine as Urban Decay de-slick but more than E.L.F Mist & Set Spray, plus it dried quick and it helps get rid of the powdery look when using powder products.
I was shocked by the scent, it’s a faint antiseptic smell, not off-putting but surprising. Looking at other reviews, no one else has mentioned it so might be just me!
The spray left my skin semi-matte as I could still see some shine but not as much as normal and it helped my makeup last for a few hours more than average. As for controlling oils…not so much. I mean it did help keep me shine free for an hour extra than usual but after that, oil galore!
Left: Just applied spray – Right: 4 Hours after
Keep in mind that my skin is extremely oily so I wasn’t expecting huge results, the reviews I’ve read it seemed to work better on their skin than mine.
I would use it again if I do short trips out but for long days I’d stick to my Urban Decay spray as it keeps me shine-free for longer. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely product for the ‘normal’ oily skin person but for extremely-oily-running-down-your-face person like myself it’s not enough. However, for £5 the quality is amazing at that price, and I liked how it got rid of the horrid powder look I was supporting!
